THE SECOND SINGLE TAKEN FROM THEIR NEW ALBUM THE ART OF LYING
DUE FOR RELEASE ON 26TH NOVEMBER VIA KIND VIOLENCE RECORDS
A behemoth compared to their usually more industrial and post-punk sound, ‘Extreme Greed’ evidences a more expansive, stadium rock feel with overarching synths pulling you firmly into the track alongside elevating percussion.
Speaking about the song, Ist Ist say, “Upon first listening, the lyrics could be mistaken for political narrative and a critique of capitalism, but the song paints the picture of a protagonist surrounded with needy people who take from him emotionally without thinking of the consequences.”The track is the second to be taken from the Manchester-based band’s second album ‘The Art Of Lying’ due for release on 26th November. Elaborating on that, the band explain, “Like most of the album, ‘Extreme
Greed’ was a full collaboration, started from scratch in the rehearsal room under the cloud of Covid and lockdowns.” The record will be released via the band’s own label Kind Violence Records and serviced by Scruff Of The Neck.
‘Extreme Greed’ follows on from previous single ‘It Stops Where It Starts’. An urgent progression from the monochromatic soundscapes with which Ist Ist found cult fame, it encapsulates stark, dark and brooding tones across it’s 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Frontman Adam Houghton’s distinct baritone is the perfect accompaniment to the driving beats and dystopian lyrical themes.
The quartet’s first album ‘Architecture’, was released in May 2020 and saw great success as a genuine independent release, reaching #3 in the Independent Album Chart and #4 in the Vinyl Album Chart. Now back with a swift follow up, ‘The Art Of Lying’ was written in April and May of last year and recorded in October. Whilst it’s not a ‘lockdown record’ there is a cohesive thread that ties the LP together, capturing a certain energy of living in the present that can be unlocked when you press play on the full product.
In support of the new album, Ist Ist will be embarking on a 10 date tour of the UK from album release day until the 11th December, visiting London, Bristol, Glasgow and Manchester along the way.
