James Arthur’s Phenomenal Hit ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’
Achieves RIAA Diamond Status Certification
Lead Single from 2016’s Back from the Edge Generates More Than 2.2 Billion Spotify Streams & 1.5 Billion YouTube Views
‘Say You Won’t Let Go’, the record-shattering lead single from Back from the Edge, English singer-songwriter James Arthur’s top-selling 2016 second studio album (and first for Columbia Records), becomes his first RIAA Diamond Single with 10 million certified units.
Originally released by Columbia Germany to all DSPs on September 9th, 2016, ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ became an immediate sensation for James Arthur, who’d first risen to fame as a winner of “The X Factor” in 2012. The track spent three weeks atop the UK Singles Chart while peaking at #1 in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.
The song became Arthur’s breakthrough hit in the US, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Back from the Edge was released on October 28, 2016 and entered the UK Albums Chart at #1. ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ was officially the UK’s most streamed song in 2016 and has gone on to be enjoyed via 2.2 billion Spotify streams while the song’s official video has achieved 1.5 billion views on YouTube.
Since 1958, the Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA) has celebrated remarkable achievements from artists and their label teams through the prestigious Gold & Platinum program. The RIAA recently recognized just 100 Diamond Single certifications in the program’s history and, with ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ reaching Diamond status, James Arthur joins an elite group of record-setting hitmakers.
“I’m truly honoured to be amongst a few artists ever to reach this milestone,” said James. “To think I’m a lad from Redcar in the north east of England and a little song I wrote has been heard by so many people in America is extraordinary and I am beyond grateful for the love I’ve been shown in the US.”
Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, Sony Music Entertainment’s catalogue division, presented James Arthur with a plaque commemorating his first RIAA Diamond Single certification for ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’.
James Arthur is currently in the studio working on new material for release in 2023.
