Ahead of the release of their new studio album Sleepless Empire on 14 February, Italian metal titans Lacuna Coil have released the final single from the album, I Wish You Were Dead.
I Wish You Were Dead is about the emotional turmoil and struggle that accompanies toxic relationships. The song’s video takes the track’s heavy theme and spins it into a romantic Gothic tale just in time for Valentine’s Day. Filmed by Martina L McLean in a church in Capranica, a small town north of Rome, it marks a first in the history of Lacuna Coil as the band perform choreography.
The band share the following about the new single and the album release:
“We all have this person we wish never existed, right? We have all felt the need to erase the same person from our thoughts, someone who hurt us that’s still in our mind. We wanted to write heavier lyrics on a happier musical canvas. Also, we are a little tired of being politically correct at all costs.
“Sleepless Empire captures, through our eyes, the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity, and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies. We find ourselves in between, having witnessed a full analogic world and the modern one, confronting the evolution and searching for a true meaning to it al. Throughout every song, the journey is an undercurrent of rebellion, a desperate cry to reclaim ourselves in an era that seems to have lost its sense of time and reality.”
Sleepless Empire marks the 10th studio album from Lacuna Coil and is their first long player release after their remake album Comalies XX which came out in 2022. The new album comprises eleven tracks and each one is a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and place. With Sleepless Empire, that place is dark, cinematic and unmistakably true to the unique characteristics that have given Lacuna Coil such a celebrated entry in the annals of heavy music.

Lacuna Coil recently announced the massive 37 date European and UK leg of their Sleepless Empire tour for October, November and December this year, taking in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium and the UK. Shortly after the release of the new album, the Italian powerhouse will be playing throughout Latin America and Mexico on a 12 date tour in March. They also recently announced they will be joining Machine Head and In Flames on their massive 25 date North American tour in April and May before returning to Europe during the summer for key festivals including Tallinn Rock and Bloodstock.
ABOUT LACUNA COIL
Lacuna Coil, which translates to ‘empty spiral’, is an Italian gothic metal band formed in Milan in 1994. The band is renowned for their distinctive blend of heavy metal, gothic rock and symphonic elements, characterised by dual vocal harmonies between co-vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro.
The band gained international recognition with their third album, Comalies in 2002, which featured the hit singles Heaven’s A Lie and Swamped. The album marked their breakthrough in the United States and helped them secure a dedicated fanbase worldwide. Over the subsequent years the band have released several successful albums, including Karmacode (2006), Shallow Life (2009), Dark Adrenaline (2012) and Black Anima (2019).
Known for their dynamic live performances and strong stage presence, the band has toured extensively, sharing stages with prominent bands in the metal scene and performing at major music festivals around the world.
