The wait is finally over for fans of GRAMMY®-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Laufey as she releases her highly-anticipated Bewitched The Goddess Edition via AWAL.
The expanded edition features four brand-new original songs that Laufey wrote in the wake of finishing her 2023 critically celebrated album Bewitched, including ‘Goddess’ and new single ‘Bored’
Additionally, Laufey recently starred in a short film for ‘Goddess,’ directed by Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe-nominated and Spirit Award-winning director Celine Song (Past Lives). The picture also features Will Gao (Netflix’s “Heartstopper” and Wasia Project), and was shot in Brooklyn, NY on 35mm film
Laufey just recently announced that she will be bringing her ‘Bewitched: The Goddess Tour’ Downunder for shows in Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. After immediately selling out her shows on fan presale, Laufey had added two additional shows in Melbourne and an extra night in Sydney. All shows officially sold-out within minutes of going on sale this morning.
The Grammy Award winner will play three nights at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Monday 9 September, before heading through Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall on Wednesday 11 September. She will take on the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on Friday 13 September, closing with a second and final Sydney show at the ICC Sydney Theatre on Saturday 14 September.
Her recent release Goddess’, which has clocked over 20 million streams to date, was added to triple j rotation and landed in the Top 50 Most Played Songs at the station. Recently Laufey chatted to Abby & Tyrone on triple j Drive about the forthcoming album and was also featured as “One To Watch” on the Today Show.
2023 was a standout year for global superstar Laufey with her album Bewitched catapulting through the charts, debuting at #2 on Spotify’s Global, sitting at #1 on the ARIA Jazz & Blues Album Charts for 32 consecutive weeks, as well as #23 on the Billboard 200, #1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums Chart, and #1 on Current Traditional Jazz Albums Chart. It also marked the biggest debut for a jazz album in Spotify history, with the album’s hit single “From The Start” officially RIAA-certified Gold.
In February, Laufey won the 2024 GRAMMY® for ‘Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album’, where she also performed cello alongside Billy Joel during the performance of his new single “Turn The Lights Back On” during the telecast.
Today, she has 2 billion streams across all platforms and is the biggest streaming artist from Iceland in the world.
Laufey reflects, “One thing I’ve really thought about in the last few months is how much I’ve become the musician that I needed when I was younger. I really wanted an authentic singer that I could look up to that came from a musical background, who stood up for the nerds, stood up for the orchestra kids, or stood up for the hopeless romantics a little bit. I became that for myself—and in turn, I’ve grown a community of very like-minded people who I love very much.
