LAUREL SMITH
SHARES NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘THE RED PILL’
Today – Jan 18th – sees London based newcomer Laurel Smith share new single & video ‘The Red Pill’, a pulsating cut of alternative-pop that showcases her effortless ability to meld hyper-pop, emo and industrial production together. Lyrically, Laurel re-invents classic teenage feelings of not belonging into something brooding, dark and distinctly her own.
Speaking on the track Laurel adds “The Red Pill is an important song to me – it’s the first single that I’ve co-produced, a big milestone. To me the song is a burst of energy coming from built up frustration; It’s a metaphor for feeling out of place but also becoming comfortable with being different. I’m a big gamer so it was fun to incorporate elements of what I was playing into the song as well.”
The Red Pill follows on from Laurel’s debut EP ‘TRASHSTARWRLD’ which drew attention from the likes of DORK CLASH, The Line of Best Fit, Kerrang, Notion and more; as well as inclusion in Spotify’s Misfits playlist, solidifying Laurel as a bright new spark in London’s alternative-pop space. Outside of the world of music, Laurel has modelled for brands such as Stitch and Criminal Damage, and is an equally exciting newcomer in the world of streetwear.
‘The Red Pill’ is the first taste of a larger project from Laurel soon to be announced, watch this space.
