MAY returns with the new single ‘Cynthia’ on Wednesday – watch the brilliant self-directed video HERE
Self-produced debut EP released 30th October
London headline show, Pitchfork Paris
MAY is set to release her new single ‘Cynthia’ on 25th September via Foundation.FM Records. The single sets up the release of her self-produced debut EP, due out 30th October. She has also announced a new London headline date on 25th September at Bermondsey Social Club and she’ll be performing at Pitchfork Paris and Fifty Lab Brussels in November.
‘Cynthia’ is a wildly inventive, infectious single from London-based MAY. It is pop music in the best traditions – daring and original, in which MAY pushes and pulls the boundaries to create a thrilling and unique piece of music. It is set to build on the wide critical-acclaim that she has built since starting to release music last year. ‘Cynthia’ and the forthcoming debut EP have been written and produced entirely by MAY.
On the track MAY says –
“‘Cynthia’ is my fourth single to date, written and produced by myself, made across several studios including Studio 13 (Founded by Damon Albarn), young space and at home. Through elastic saccharine synths, gliding strings and deep resonant 808’s beat, we find ourselves looking through a rose tinted lens to a domestic world inhabited by the fictional character Cynthia, inspired by the work of performance artist Shana Moulton. The lyrics explore how freedom and fantasy can be found within the practice of our domestic everyday routines, such as skin rituals, or even bored lying in bed in the morning. These routines transcend us into the theatres of our imaginations.”
