MICHAEL KIWANUKA

SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘REBEL SOUL’

NEW ALBUM SMALL CHANGES RELEASED 22ND NOVEMBER 2024

Michael Kiwanuka is pleased to share a new single, ‘Rebel Soul’, the fourth taster from his forthcoming new album, Small Changes. The new album is released on 22nd November via Polydor Records. ‘Rebel Soul’ is the latest introductory serving from Michael’s fourth record, and a slow-build mood-setter that crescendos with Michael’s own vocal weaving in and out of focus, dripping with soul.

Michael has just returned to the UK following a rotating headline tour across the US with Brittany Howard. Further to Michael’s recently announced (and near sell out) UK/European tour for next Spring, he is excited to announce details of an intimate, stripped-back live run in support of UK record stores next month. The six dates offer fans a chance to hear the new music in much closer confines ahead of the full electric tour next year. The new dates call at Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham, Kingston Upon Thames, concluding in Southampton.

Driving conversations between producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and Michael about the direction of the album and particularly ‘The Rest Of Me’, the album’s penultimate track, was the desire to make an album that transcends any notion of what is or isn’t deemed “cool”. He recalls, “We were trying to shoot for something that might have made it onto a Bill Withers album or a Sade album.” Indeed, Sade is the case in point on this new track, as Michael remembers afternoons as a child in the back of his aunt’s car, “where Diamond Life was rarely out of the tape machine.”

BASTILLE & (AMPERSAND) A COLLECTION OF STORY SONGS

OUT NOW

A beautiful new project from Bastille’s Dan Smith, “&” is collection of story songs that explores the worlds of fascinating figures from history, mythology, and pop culture, fed by instinctive new collaborations with friends and family, dazzling arrangements and an infectious spirit of musical freedom. Watch Dan introduce the making of “&” here. Poets and artists, anthropologists and scientists, characters from religion and myth, outsiders, and trailblazers, all come to life here in the hushed, spellbinding soundworlds Smith has created – a new twist on the melodic power for which Bastille have been adored for over a decade.

Music as a channel for storytelling, performed in natural ways with friends, collaborators and even family, full of warmth and the energy of connection, is what “&” is all about. It’s a collection of songs about looking out at the world, disappearing into other lives rather than into ourselves, and about the humanity that can crackle and shimmer as a consequence.

To celebrate the album’s release, the “&” live tour will take place in November with 7 special one-off shows across seven global cities including Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam, Berlin, Los Angeles, New York and at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 17th November. Tickets on sale here.

LILY LYONS

RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘THE ORANGE’

Lily Lyons new single ‘The Orange’ is out now. The track has been accompanied by a beautiful live video, shot earlier this year at The Shelter in London, available to watch here.

“I wrote this song whilst spending a few weeks staying in Oxford; I had just read Wendy Cope’s poem The Orange for the first time and it had touched me deeply. Reading this poem broke me out of a cycle I had been in of becoming absorbed in the superficial and never finding peace due to looking in the wrong places. The song really poured out of me, a big “aha” moment, a reminder to continue to love the mundane. I always really connect with art that brings me back to the simple but brilliant.”
