With a sold out live debut show under his belt, 19yr old London producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nick Mono is quickly establishing himself as a breakthrough artist to watch. Today he releases new single ‘All That You Do’ ahead of another sold out performance at Jack Saunders’ ‘Hopscotch’ clubnight tomorrow.
Of the sun-soaked, melancholic single Nick says “I produced this one in my room, centred around a D’Angelo-inspired guitar riff I made and just let everything else in the instrumental service that guitar. The song has quite a romantic sentiment overall but the core of the song is centred around the frustration of trying to make something work with someone during a transitional period in life. There’s only one verse in the song because I feel like there’s not much you can really do in that situation. There’s a hopelessness to the song, and specifically the verse, which I love about it. It’s probably one of my favourite verses I’ve written.”
‘All That You Do’ is the sound of an artist making the kind of genre-defying music that he loves, whilst providing some much-needed representation for South Asian music fans. Nick is preparing to release his upcoming project – with the majority of the tracks being entirely self-produced. Merging the London stylings of people like Blur, King Krule and Jamie T with the alternative hip hop that Nick is obsessed with, his sound is rich with hazy soundscapes, woozy guitars and Nick’s ability to craft tight, memorable melodies.
Growing up in West London to Punjabi-Indian parents, Nick was a music obsessive from an early age – writing and releasing music all through secondary school. The song that propelled him to that next level is ‘Effy Stonem’ – named after a character from the iconic teen drama Skins – the track began to blow up on TikTok, with creators like Bella Poarch and the Skins actor April Pearson using the song in their videos. On only his second single, Nick secured the support of Radio 1 (who premiered ‘Rusty’ as Jack Saunders’ Next Wave). And now, with the release of ‘All That You Do’, we get the next taster of the thrilling future that’s in store for this talented artist.
