Sanford, Florida was rocking Biketoberfest at The Alley on Friday night October 16, 2020. The Alley stage welcomed the band Overkilt to start the weekend festivities. All Music Magazine was on the scene with Mark Horan of MarkHoran.Pictures LLC. It was a clear night with temperatures right around 80 degrees. The Alley blocks half the tables to ensure social distancing, so the crowd was at roughly fifty percent. Mark shares his experience of the show below.
I arrived in the middle of the first set at approximately 8:35pm. The schedule start of the event was 8:00pm. The cover band Overkilt was rocking out on stage and my access to photograph was easy as the audience was seated and enjoying the music.
The first set ended, and the band mingled inside and outside the venue with the fans in attendance. I also took the time to mingle and introduce myself to the band members and the crowd, passing out cards.
The second set started, and the whole atmosphere changed. The band was more engaging, their energy was elevated, and the crowd got out of their seats and populated the dance floor. It was two completely different shows! With this momentum, I almost wished I had stayed for the third and final set.
Overkilt is made up of really great musicians. This night’s lineup included an old friend sitting in on bass, Michael DelCampo currently with Speed Limit 70 and the ex-bass player of Papa Wheelee. An Overkilt’s show covers songs from Jet, Kim Wilde, Velvet revolver, and many more. Their catalog is extremely eclectic and has something for everyone. Although some songs are more about showcasing the bands musical talent with no intention of filling the dance floor, there are plenty of songs that had the audience out of their seats. Overall, I had a good time and enjoyed the show finding myself singing along while I was trying to work.
Biketoberfest, and Bike Week in Central Florida are great times to get out and enjoy live music in every venue within a hundred miles of Daytona Beach, Florida. It is a great showcase for the area to entertain all the visitors that flock to Florida at the beginning and at the end of winter. Motorcycles and Rock N Roll, what can be better?
