WORDS AND IMAGES DESH KAPUR
I had the opportunity to see Paloma Faith perform at the historic Llangollen International Music Festival. There were no supporting acts, so it was two sets of Paloma.
The first half showcased her ‘Glorification of Sadness’ heartbreak record, the album, written after her split from Leyman Lahcine which she has said, empowered her. While the second half featured recent and old classics.
During the first set, Paloma Faith looked stunning in a black flowered puffy dress and fabulous black boots, her signature retro glam. She captivated the audience with her magnetic presence as her powerful distinctive vocals soared effortlessly throughout the venue.
Opening with “There’s Nothing More Human Than Failure” and “How You Leave A Man,” Faith, effortlessly hitting high notes and transitioning seamlessly between power and vulnerability.
In the second set, Paloma appeared on stage in a tiger-inspired cat suit, brown wig, and headscarf. She delivered old classics, and the atmosphere was electric.
The setlist featured beloved hits like “Stone Cold Sober” and “Picking Up The Pieces.” The night reached its crescendo with “Only Love Can Hurt Like This,” punctuated by Paloma’s signature high notes, leaving the audience in awe. she had the crowd on their feet, swaying with arms aloft and their mobile phones illuminating the big top.
But it wasn’t just the music that made the concert memorable; it was Paloma’s infectious energy and connection with her fans. Whether she was sharing personal stories between songs or encouraging the crowd to sing along, her warmth and authenticity shone through, making the concert feel like an intimate gathering among friends. Paloma Faith’s performance was not just a concert but a cathartic experience. With each song, she reaffirmed her status as a fearless and empowered artist.
