Pebbledash most recently released the hotly anticipated debut EP Four Portraits of the Same Ugly House (Jan 31st). Building a reputation for their unique blend of shoegaze, noise rock, dream pop and traditional Irish music, the band continue to build on their growing momentum on an EP brimming with rich musical ideas.
Produced by Aidan O’Mahoney at Kitten Lane Studios and mastered by Pete Maher (known for his work with U2, Nick Cave, and The Pixies), The Four Portraits of the Same Ugly House EP delivers a rich, dynamic sonic experience through experimental ideas, emotion driven songwriting beautiful interlocking melodies and explosive, visceral explosions of noise.
Capturing the essence of Pebbledash’s evolving sound, encapsulating a year of growth, change, and reflection, the four track release is named after the band’s time spent in Cork city, referred to as the “Ugly House” in the title. The songs represent key moments in the band’s lives, marked by a sense of nostalgia and a longing for connection.
Speaking on the tour’s unique name, ‘Of Seaweed and Sandstone, ’ the band says, “The name comes from a trip we all took last year to Dunmore East where we wrote some of the songs we are playing on this tour. We were staying in a house perched precariously on top of this sandstone cliff overlooking the beach and spent a few days just chatting and playing whilst the landscape just had its huge effect on us with its history and dramatic-ness all entwining itself with our ambitions in the context of the band. In addition to this, the contrasting image of seaweed on sandstone, the soft and the rugged, the moveable and immovable, the rough and the smooth, became a great metaphor for the music we are writing and exploring, the textures we want to create both musically and lyrically. There was also some magic to be found in the natural well lined with seaweed we all drank from.”
Of Seaweed and Sandstone marks the band’s second Irish and debut UK tour. With this tour, Pebbledash “want to exhibit the sound we began to develop after the release of our debut EP with the songs we wrote in the following months. After the first release jitters, we were renewed with confidence and excitement in our songs, moving in a slightly different direction. Spurred by a renewed sense of confidence, the tour allows us to show off this new stage of Pebbledash, where we can continue to establish ourselves as songwriters and musicians with something to say that we need to translate to the world and more importantly, our way of saying it, the tour is our vessel to portray this in a theatrical sense. We can continue building our world around our music and for the listening people. Along with this, we love touring and playing where we haven’t been before and meeting other bands and people coming to the shows makes us feel like we are doing what we were always meant to be doing.”
