LIMITED EDITION DOUBLE A-SIDE 12” YELLOW VINYL ‘HEAR ME OUT’ / ‘MAMBO SUN’
Spanning an impressive third of a century, formerly ‘go to’ bell weather of alt-rock combo the “Pixies”, and latterly ever dependable elder icons release their thousandth record in a seamlessly choreographed ballet of PR as the well oiled industry mainstay launches said zillionth outing upon a world in turmoil. And what we have here is the new single “Hear me out” and it’s definitely a “Pixies” record which is a good start. It means its chock full of their signature slick production and concise, take it to the bank, song writing and is an all around hit single candidate (remember them!). Yes it’s formulaic, but to be clear you can’t clock up three plus decades of success without having figured out what works and how to make more of it. So that’s cool too.
Perfectly crafted and radio friendly “Hear me out” plays well, really well actually, and grabs the attention in any playlist. So fair play, its business as usual for the “Pixies” as they effortlessly adapt, at the apex of the food chain as it were, to the “new normal”. As a nod to a giant influencer the other A side gives us a rendering of T Rex’s Mambo sun which also receives the signature “Pixies” makeover and should gain kudos as a curio and collectable in its own right. Available now on fat yellow wax “Hear me out” will sit comfortably amongst any hoard of indie heroes releases and I guess that if you happen to be a “Pixies” fan you’ll have little choice other than to acquire this forthwith.
