Bristol Post-Punk upstarts Erotic Secrets of Pompeii have emerged with new single ’Nemesis Please’,
Seamlessly straddling the line between art-pop and post-punk all brought together by an apocalyptic undercurrent, ESOP have amassed a cult fanbase in the South West over the last two years with energetic, immersive live shows, laying the foundation for a highly anticipated debut EP which has just been announced for release this autumn.
Trash Jugular has been a long time coming for the five piece, and today sees things kick off with gargantuan new single ’Nemesis Please’.
A dark, storming, fever dream of an opener, ‘Nemesis Please’ is a remarkable first taste of Erotic Secrets of Pompeii. Borrowing a line from the Irish poet Brendan Kennelly (“If you want to serve the age, betray it”), a fierce chorus acts as an agitated call to arms advocating all to defy what has gone before in the name of progress.
Speaking about ‘Nemesis Please’, frontman Thomas Hawtin said: “Nemesis Please encapsulates what we do in a nutshell – a hooky tour de force of synth, guitar and drums accompanied by a manic diatribe. The song began life as an instrumental demo written by (synth player/guitarist) Tom Hackwell, before being taken to the band. This song is a statement piece for us – a national anthem from our strange, deranged planet.”
Set for release this autumn, Trash Jugular introduces ESOP’s twisted amalgamation of angular art rock and transgressive post-punk, transmitted direct from the heart of the forbidden zone. Revelation after revelation pours forth from our unreliable narrator – singer Thomas Hawtin – swapping pleasantries for pitchforks, while the band fire on all cylinders, releasing an idiosyncratic, electroconvulsive torrent of noise as hooky as it is offbeat. Prepare for a surreal internal struggle to comprehend the self – furnished with red hot occult imagery and extraordinary visions before bedtime.
More information on Trash Jugular will be announced in due course, for now watch the video for ‘Nemesis Please’ here.
