DEBUT ALBUM PREGOBLIN II (OUT NOW)
&
EVERYBODY’S ILL (AT THE MOMENT) PART 2
PREGOBLIN release their debut album PREGOBLIN II today (23rd February) through the Strap Originals label. To coincide with the release a video for Everybody’s Ill (AT The Moment) Part 2 is available to watch here.
Everybody’s Ill (At The Moment) Part 2, a gorgeously infectious funky groove that is 6 parts Parliament, 2 parts Steely Dan and 10 parts PREGOBLIN is the fourth track to be taken from PREGOBLIN II, following on from These Hands AKA Danny Knife featuring Peter Doherty, Big Hitters featuring Armand Schaubroeck and Nobody Likes Me with special guest vocalist Jessica Winter.
PREGOBLIN II is an astonishingly heartfelt and brilliantly catchy assemblage of songs with extraordinary words and a breadth of musical styles, which far outweighs most debuts for savvy and ambition. “I love so much different music,” says PREGOBLIN lynchpin Alex Sebley. “At the beginning, I had quite a strong punk ethos, but I like people who straddle genres.”
A conversation with Sebley naturally encompasses a sprawl of loving musical touchstones, which range from outsider heroes Daniel Johnston and early Beck, via wizard and true star Todd Rundgren, through to hip hop rule-breakers Tricky, and Tyler The Creator, whose wonky 2019 alt-R&B smash ‘Earfquake’ was a major inspiration.
During the early ’10s, Sebley was registering his embryonic talent alongside Lias and Nathan Saoudi in The Saudis, the chaotic pre-Fat White Family ensemble where he made substantive contributions to ‘Touch The Leather’, ‘These Hands’, ‘Who Shot Lee Oswald?’, ‘Rockfishes’ and ‘Teenage Toy’, before departing the band just as its ascent began.
Re PREGOBLIN II Alex says he “tried to play with the formula of the classic rock ‘n’ roll singer-songwriter, and update it with some of the sound/production choices and the instruments used on songs like Big Hitters and Alpha Business. I like big strong power ballads as well, so I’m trying to mix that feel in. But part of me is trying to get more serious, strip out a bit of the pop stuff, too, and write songs that are more heartfelt, and rough around the edges.”
PREGOBLIN receive a healthy 50,000 plays a month on Spotify. Previous singles include Combustion which to date has amassed nearly 3M streams and was dubbed ‘Single Of The Year’ in The Quietus.
Having toured recently with The Libertines, Peter Doherty and Pip Blom and sold out their own headline shows at the Windmill in London, PREGOBLIN perform at Simple Things festival in February, Get Together Festival in May and make a special in-store/album launch appearance at Dash The Henge in Camberwell, South London on March 1st.
