debut album COMPARE WHAT’S THERE (out now)
Nieuw-punk rockers Real Farmer, release their highly anticipated debut album Compare What’s There through the Strap Originals label, on Friday 8th March. Hailing from the North Dutch city of Groningen, Real Farmer have blazed an exhilarating trail from the pubs and bars of their hometown to the highways and byways of Europe.
About the album ‘Compare What’s There’:
“Writing this album has been a most cathartic experience. Our intention was to be more open and vulnerable in writing the songs. There’s a lot of pent-up frustration and anger, tangible in songs such as ‘The Feeding’ and ‘The Straightest Line’, but also resilience and anticipation, more present in ‘Perry Boys’ and ‘Inner City’. There were no rules during the writing and recording sessions, a kind of unspoken agreement that we would not try to write in a specific way or mode, but to see where things would go, with the exception of a rule being not to overcomplicate things. This gave a lot of room in how we wrote songs and also caused the songs to change before reaching their final state. Every song has its own sense of drive, sometimes it’s filled with ominous melodies and dynamic drums, other times more straightforward and in your face. We hope you’ll enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it. Onto the second album!”

Compare What’s There was produced by Niek Van Den Driesschen and recorded at Far Out Sound Studios in Rotterdam.
As active members of the vibrant local music scene with their wonderfully infectious punk noise, Real Farmer’s debut album Compare What’s There finds guitarist/vocalist Peter van der Ploeg, bassist/vocalist Marrit Meinema, singer Jeroen Klootsema and drummer Leon Harms concocting fast-paced, driving songs with wiry riffs, propelling drums, and winding melodies. Each track stands on its own, both expressing a nostalgia for a different time and reflecting the time and place the songs were written in, showing the multifaceted personalities that make up Real Farmer.
Groningen is one of the youngest cities in Europe, thanks in part to a ‘do it yourself’ nonprofit attitude, of which Real Farmer have become an integral part. The old farts in their MC5/Stooges/Pixies/Nirvana t-shirts say there are no good bands these days… That’s bollocks, and Real Farmer have pulled into your yard in their hot rod tractors to prove it.
Fourth single I Can’t Run is also released today, following previous tracks The Straightest Line and Consequence, both of which garnered multiple plays on BBC Radio One and were playlisted at Radio X.
Buy/stream Compare What’s There on the digital platform of your choice and on limited edition coloured vinyl.
The video for I Can’t Run was filmed live at The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge by Barnaby Fairley (Livestock Studios).
