REAL FARMER
New Single INNER CITY (out now)
Debut Album COMPARE WHAT’S THERE (8th March 2024)
& UK TOUR
Stalwarts of the Groningen garage punk scene, Real Farmer are the latest signings to Peter Doherty’s Strap Originals label. In anticipation of their debut album Compare What’s There, which is released 8th March 2024, Real Farmer unleash a new single Inner City on 10th November. You can preorder the album here: Compare What’s There
As active members of the vibrant local music scene with their wonderfully infectious punk noise, Real Farmer’s debut album Compare What’s There finds guitarist/vocalist Peter van der Ploeg, bassist/vocalist Marrit Meinema, singer Jeroen Klootsema and drummer Leon Harms concocting fast-paced, driving songs with wiry riffs, propelling drums, and winding melodies. Each track stands on its own, both expressing a nostalgia for a different time and reflecting the time and place the songs were written in, showing the multifaceted personalities that make up Real Farmer.
Groningen is one of the youngest cities in Europe, thanks in part to a ‘do it yourself’ nonprofit attitude, of which Real Farmer have become an integral part. If you weren’t born when the MC5, the Stooges or the Pixies were kicking out the jams, make Real Farmer your new jam. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
About the single “Inner City”:
“Inner City is one of the first songs we wrote together after our new guitar player Peter joined, which was still during the pandemic. We released a demo version of it as the first song on our “Forever (demo)” EP, which was our way of letting everyone know: Real Farmer are still together as a band and committed as ever. The song talks about the regrettable course that a love life can take and how a person can become embedded within certain patterns.”
Compare What’s There was produced by Niek Van Den Driesschen and recorded at Far Out Sound Studios in Rotterdam.
