New album from 3 piece glasweigen band Fatherson is released 1st April. This an exciting time for the band with it being the first release in over 3 years.

Fatherson have made their entry into fans hearts over the years touring with the likes of Biffy Clyro. The band are no strangers of pushing boundries of the norm with their style of music, ranging from anthemic rock and a combination of alt pop. The band are able to keep pushing creative boundaries and embrace new accelting guest co-writers that have included Danny morgan-Ball (jimmy eats world, Feeder) Rich Turvey (blossoms, Courteeners) and Seton Daunt (Kylie)

This new album fascinated me with the structure, rather than record live. The band have taken songs apart and reassembled them giving them a new structure, piano sounds were recorded on cassette tapes and the use of ping pong balls to provide different sounds were used. On the song ping pong balls were put into a snare drum and shook about to create a unique sound. If you listen a bit deeper you may also hear a dropped sandbag, the sound of a river in Kilmarnock and a couple arguing in the street. This is what this album does so well.

Not only do the lyrics grasp you. The audio takes you on a sensory journey throughout providing the listener with something new and extraordinary on each listen. The band take Ross Leightons smooth lyrics but carry it across sharp sounds. Whilst recording Ross also picked up the studio’ guitar that was used on Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees. You can here this on Love For air.Fatherson have really taken a leap with this album. Allthough Ross’ distinct lyrics are still unmistakable their sound has gone from being delivered through heavier guitars into a more unique delivery of softer acoustics and new and old sounds. Which I think works really well. Taking in the new creative sounds as well as the bands unforgettable delivery kept my ears pricked for the whole album.7/10
