Miles Kane ‘Change The Show’ released 21st January 2022 By BMG Order Here

“The Album Has Depth And The Magic Of Motown And Soul To Uplift You”

This is Miles Kanes first album since he moved back over to the UK after moving to Los Angeles in 2018.

“I moved to Bethnal Green and came back down to earth,” says Miles, only half-joking. “Visually, it’s a world away from LA. I felt like a kid going home to me mam’s – comfortable, content, with my old drive back. That had a big impact on my writing, plus it helped me as a person. Suddenly, I could see what’s important.”

The album shows Kane in another light, known for his energetic unique performances this album, has him directing his energy and uniqness into something new but with a retro twist.

Kicking of the album with ‘Tears Are Falling’ this track gear’s you into a joyous ride of Motown beats, soul and a fifties style that Miles is able to do so smoothly.

Miles collaborated with Corrine Baile Rae who’s own music spans indie, electronic, jazz and soul and released the single off the album ‘Nothing Is Ever Going To Be Good Enough’ The two of these are so fluid in their music styles this was bound to bring about a magical recipe of a diverse sound. The piano delivers an upbeat energy that is carried along with both of their lyrics and vocal range.

Speaking of the duet, Kane explains “ This is all about that feeling of giving everything you’ve got to something or someone but feeling like you’re never quite getting the same energy back. And how sometimes the harder you try and reach for it, the further away it becomes.” Corinne adds, “I love this song and can’t get it out of my head. I’m so pleased to be on it”

The single ‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’ is a nod towards Miles Kanes authenticity using a sample from the Wirral’s greatest Paul Grady, before leading you that fast drum beat, brass and piano that would not be out of place in any underground soul club that oozes Glamour and style. Paul Grady re recorded the sample Just for Kane having heard the BBC wanted a lot of money for the sample and him being a fan.

‘See Ya When I See Ya’  is a gentle wave to Kanes old self and look forward to the future journey he has with his own self. ‘Never Get Tired Of Dancing’ is a fun track that many of us can relate too, of burning the candle after dancing to music until early hours in the morning and feeling the effects the next day.

‘Tell Me What Your Feeling’ recorded in physc rock duo ‘sunglasses for jaws’ studio which Kane describes as a tongue in cheek tale of escape I absolutely love the description of this track and the meaning adds depth when listening ‘looking at beautiful things and knowing you can’t be arsed with any of it.” a statement I feel many can relate to.

‘Caroline’ is all about telling someone how special they really are and communication. With a soulful fun Motown beat carrying it through. The remedies Kane speaks about in the title track ‘Coming of Age’ are drugs having not made the instant connection at first Kane said it gives the track a Roy Orbison/ blue velvet vibe

‘Adios Tara- Tara’ another nod towards Kanes homegrown vocabulary and a fun closing track for the album which he describes as ‘a bit of fun’ and playful nonsense towards confidence.

The album has depth but has the magic of Motown and soul to uplift you at the same time. Kane has opened up about the album being a product of self reflection and no doubt a influence of the British Rock Supergroup The Jaded Hearts Club which included Nic Cester (jet) Matt Bellamy (Muse) Jaymie Davies and Sean Payne (Zutons) who have covered Motown and Soul classics.

Like many of us growing up listening to Motown brands a stamp firmly on your heart and soul Miles has always added a modern element of Motown in every project he has been involved in, including The Last Shadow Puppets. This album feels like he’s really given himself an empty canvas to create a modern authentic Miles Kane twist on a classic genre.
