London’s ISLAND return with  their highly anticipated new album “Yesterday Park”. This comes on the heels of their recent critically acclaimed singles “My Brother”, “Everyone’s The Same” and “Octopus”, which are all also taken from the new album. The singles and album mark the band’s first new material since 2019 and has seen them already rack up almost 1m streams as well as earning plaudits from a vast array of publications including Clash, DIY, The Independent, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and more.

Recorded in semi-locked down London last summer, the new album “Yesterday Park” sees the band ditch their self-recording sensibilities to work alongside lauded producer Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke etc.)

So it was time to sit down, put on the headphones, and get up close and friendly with “Yesterday Park”.

Roaming around the streets of the town called ‘music’ you come across all sorts of off roads, cul de sacs and pokey little avenues that often look familiar but have a different feel where the houses seem to have had a fresh coat of paint. This is so with this new album from London troupe ‘Island’ and it carries that paint well.

Reflective and honest, Yesterday Park has a lovely unadulterated feel that when listened to closely, makes you feel like you have been here before but somehow this particular road has new growth on its trees, hedges and lawns. Subtle guitar rifts match perfectly with the Indie undercurrent and everything feels unrushed, comfortable in the retro messages, Island seem to completely understand where their heart lies.

Lyrically and musically the tracks walk confidently without strutting and more importantly they direct you to a place of comfort without that sometimes arrogant push in the back, musical honey if you will. Atmospheric, lush and memorable, Island can take me to their Yesterday Park anytime, and all that’s needed is the picnic and the wine, perfect for any day.
