UK HEADLINE TOUR KICKS OFF TONIGHT, INCLUDING HUGE SHEPHERDS BUSH EMPIRE SHOW ON APRIL 9TH
Spector have released ‘Felony’, the final track from the Now or Whenever era for the band,
Now Or Whenever is Spector’s first album in 7 years, and has been a long time coming for the duo. Following the critically acclaimed records Enjoy It While It Lasts (2012), Moth Boys (2015) and EP compilation Non-Fiction (2020), each release built a culture around the group and accrued them a fiercely loyal fan base, making Spector one of Britain’s most-loved alternative outfits.
The album has a remarkable live feel, seeing the band record in a new, more direct way with Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Vistas), putting drums and guitar straight to tape and embracing an exciting new direction. The album features moments of tranquility alongside driving, singalong indie anthems, seamlessly encapsulating Spector’s decade-long journey so far, and what the future holds.
To coincide with the band’s highly-anticipated UK headline tour kicking off tonight, today sees the release of bonus track ‘Felony’, a driving anthem that plays apologetic vocals against gloriously Knopfler-esque guitars and gradually building instrumental layers.
Speaking about ‘Felony’, Spector said…
Fred Macpherson: ‘”Jed played us an early version Felony during the Moth Boys sessions and the chorus has been going round my head since. Luckily, like My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless, it only took seven years to finish. It’s the final song of the (covid-extended) Now or Whenever era, released to celebrate our tour starting tonight. Will we play it live? Come and see.”
Jed Cullen: “Sometimes doing absolutely nothing and letting those initial emotions of infatuation fade can uncover a friendship much more beautiful and long lasting than how a more romantic relationship might have gone. It can be really embarrassing to then look back and think that you fancied one of your friends and that’s probably why it took so much convincing from Fred for me to finish writing this song.”
