Starset is presenting fall 2024 live demonstrations on their “Immersion: The Final Chapter” tour. The avant-garde performance rock band arrived at The Paramount in Huntington, New York on Sunday, September 15, 2024. This demonstration was a full evening with Starset, allowing for a lengthy concert with an extended setlist. The show ran more than two hours, and included stadium-level production value.
Starset is not finished recording or touring. Instead, this “Final Chapter” completes a decade-long five album cycle, which has followed a science fiction-inspired storyline, which also plays out across two novels – The PROX Transmissions and A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FUTURE. Although the mythology has elements of mind control, discovery, and revolution, there is a more hopeful theme woven into most of the lyrics. That theme is the eternal search for love and connection. That connection is plainly evident between the members of Starset and their dedicated fans, the “Messengers”.
The stage setup for this tour is unlike anything you’ve seen before in a club setting. There was a massive movie screen in the back, which showed graphics as well as movie scenes interspersed throughout the show. Directly in front of the movie screen was a ten-foot-high platform spanning the entire stage. Performing on the platform were cellist Zuzana Engererova, drummer Adam Gilbert, keyboardist/guitarist Cory Juba, and keyboardist/violinist Siobhán Richards. There was another movie screen below that platform. On the main level were Brock Richards on guitar and backing vocals and Ron DeChant on bass, keys, and backing vocals. At the very front of the stage was a large structure with multiple fans on it. When they were turned on, videos and effects were projected across them, providing three layers of video effects. Lead singer and mastermind Dustin Bates roamed the entire set, dramatically delivering his passionate vocals.
With a full two hours to perform, Starset was able to craft a set list based on songs from Transmissions, Vessels, DIVISIONS, HORIZONS, and their upcoming release. The newer songs were on the heavier side of rock, and they spawned mosh pits and a few crowd surfers. The “Messengers” were singing and screaming along throughout the night, clearly pleased by the length of the show and the choice of songs performed. It was such an amazing experience, to share a full evening with one of the greatest bands around. Each person was fully engaged, immersed in multimedia, supporting these incredible songs that have become part of every fan’s heart and soul.
