“Big Moon Play A Breezy, Infectious, Melodic Indie-Pop”
Fans of The Big Moon began gathering out side the Leadmill in Sheffield UK at around 6.30pm to be precise, quite a while before doors. You could feel there was excitement hanging in the air, everyone looking forward to a great evening with their favourite band and it was a complete sell out to boot. Having nearly to cancel the show due to their equipment being lost somewhere in Spain, however thanks for call for help through social media, the band managed to gather what they needed from kind donators. I love it when the music community comes together.
The supports for Big Moon was in the form of two great bands Eluur, and Gently Tender. Having not been able to get to the venue in time, but by all accounts both bands were excellent to watch and when I arrived the crowed were more than warmed up nicely. It was time for Big Moon.
The Big Moon were fashionably late on stage, so the crowd erupted when they eventually arrived on stage, lots of happy smiley people everywhere, you could see the band were blown away by the reception. Opening up with “Its Easy Then”, from the album Walking Like We Do, a mush slower song with beautiful harmonies and the audience were captivated.
Throughout the remainder of the performance, the band played through tracks from across their back catalogue, including a number of tracks from their upcoming record. Tracks like ” Wide Eyes” and their new single which is brilliant take on indie pop “Your Light” were the two tracks that stood out for me. The set also included an excellent, if not a bit cheesy version of “Praise You” by Fat Boy Slim.
Big Moon play a breezy, infectious, melodic indie-pop with a touch of disco, oh and don’t forget the human flute the bands use of harmonics especially during there more dreamy monuments reminds me a little of the band War Paint.
Overall the evening was a great nights entertainment.
