A momentous week in which The Lathums saw their chart battle escalate but the band keep cool heads in emotional addresses to their loyal fans, their UK Tour get underway as well as Newcastle school children surprising them with stunning versions of their songs, the band has hit the TOP OF THE UK OFFICIAL ALBUMS CHART – for a second time!
Released on Fri 3 March on Island Records, From Nothing To A Little Bit More has followed the band’s 2021 debut, How Beautiful Life Can Be to a position at the top of the chart, achieving a feat of back-to-back Number One albums alongside guitar band luminaries and peers such as Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles and Blossoms.
Expressing growing pains with no small amount of hope, tearing pages from the picture book of singer and songwriter, Alex Moore’s twenty-something life of love, loss and hard-won wisdom, From Nothing To A Little Bit More saw the band combine with producer, Jim Abiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club) to realise an emboldened vision of the band. Linking with Wigan born-and-raised, legendary designer of numerous famed album covers from Oasis and Verve to Super Furry Animals, Brian Cannon of Microdot, for the record’s soon-to-be-iconic artwork, The Lathums continue to tick off one ambition at a time.
The results of their time in the studio, heard in the growling, alt-rock of Say My Name and the open-hearted, occasionally unapologetically grandiose epics of Turmoil and Struggle, told listeners of a band that had grown on their own terms. External pressures hadn’t competed with evident pressures in the band’s own world as success chased them from a standing start, and their response was to channel every hard-won lesson into their second collection of songs, whilst remaining defiantly a band without interest in conforming to stylistic trends.
Moore, Scott Concepcion (guitar/piano), Ryan Durrans (drums) and Matty Murphy (bass) now celebrate their Number One success in the only way they know how and look ahead to playing some of the biggest shows of their short careers, continuing their Spring 2023 Tour and relishing the prospect of catching up with their supportive fans face-to face. The recently released short documentary, From Wigan To The World, laid bare their bond with their audience.
