UK HEADLINE TOUR STARTS NEXT MONTH
DELUXE EDITION OF THE ‘LOOKING BACK’ EP TO FOLLOW IN 2023
It’s been a big year for The Native: touring arenas with Bastille; hitting festivals including Reading, Leeds, BBC Introducing Live and the Isle of Wight; releasing their acclaimed ‘Looking Back’ EP; and making their ‘Soccer AM’ live debut. Their single ‘Blindside’ has been a part of every landmark moment, in the process becoming an undeniable fan favourite and regular set opener. Now The Native share a new acoustic version of ‘Blindside’, which will feature on the upcoming Deluxe Edition of the ‘Looking Back’ EP which will be released in2023.
Shorn of its ragged guitars and propulsive energy, ‘Blindside’ takes on a very different vibe in its stripped-back form. Yet the hallmark of a great song is that it still works in an acoustic session. While the original ended on a final uplifting anthemic rallying cry as frontman Charlie Noordewier sings, “You said I’m all washed up, I don’t know why,” now it feels like an affecting acceptance that some opportunities are forever lost.
The band’s home of Plymouth has been an important part of The Native’s rise so far. Their first moment in the spotlight came when they opened for Bastille at a huge MTV show in the city while they were still at school, and they sell-out local shows every time they return home. Since signing with This Feeling Records earlier this year, The Native’s sound took on a grittier indie-rock edge which fans and tastemakers alike have embraced. The Native have consistently been championed by Bastille, a friendship which has led to numerous gigs including their biggest to date at London’s O2, Dan Smith wearing The Native’s t-shirt on stage, and The Native’s recent takeover of Bastille’s Instagram account.
The Native are currently completing a European tour as guests to Bastille and will also play a Small Sessions show at Baketown in Berlin alongside the indie-electro duo Le Boom. They’re then back on the road next month for a UK headline tour that calls at Colours in London and ends with a homecoming show at Plymouth’s Underground.
