Everyone’s favourite Queer-Punk legends aka The Oozes are back with their new single Ready, out today. Listen here. Currently on The Oozes Eyesore Tour, the four-piece can be found playing their remaining shows across the UK and Ireland through April 2023. The Oozes once again show off their raw, uncensored and unapologetic punk rock energy with Ready. The track looks at the coming out experience of a trans child to unsupportive parents. It questions the idea of the unconditional love parents claim to give until their child goes against their parents’ ideas of who their child should be. Speaking about the track, The Oozes comment: “Lyrically there is a desperate cry for support and acceptance and stresses the importance of supportive family in the reduction of suicide rates amongst trans youth. It also explores the whistleblower term of ‘the trans agenda’ which, in this political climate, is being thrown about to villainise, dehumanise and alienate trans people. The chorus line ‘are you ready’ is a challenge of parenthood. There is a self-defiance that shows that the child is not the issue but rather the parents’ ignorance.”
They add: “The influence of a racing video game motif throughout aims, in musical arrangement as well as visually, to orchestrate the bravery and determination of coming out and navigating the obstacles this brings. For many this is an intense fight for survival and getting out the other side – much like the video games we know and love. The song is especially topical in a time where the TERF mentality is being widely platformed and pushed further into the mainstream and causing transphobia to be at an all-time high, socially but also in legislation being passed under a Tory government.”
The Oozes are currently on tour, doing their best to hit anywhere and everywhere. Covering 42 dates across the UK and Ireland, The Oozes kicked off The Eyesore Tour in Coventry on March 1 st and will wrap in Dublin on April 28 th . Born in Manchester, lived in Australia for 22 years where i was heavily involved in the Australian Music Industry, firstly in bands (Singer) and then managing bands (all original), I moved back to the UK, Wales specifically 10 years ago and married my childhood sweetheart and life is good.
