Following the band’s euphoric, landmark performance at the iconic Glastonbury Festival last month and the release of their acclaimed new album All Souls Hill, The Waterboys have released the video for their new single ‘Blackberry Girl’. The release comes alongside a Puck Fingers remix of the track, which is first in a series of exclusive ‘mashups’ taken from All Souls Hill.
Directed and filmed by Mike Scott and edited by Duende Visions, the kaleidoscopic video features background footage from Tokyo’s fashionable Takashita Street. “‘Blackberry Girl’ is a kind of inflation of the characteristics of the great women I’ve known. It’s kind of an idealised woman, the kind of woman I’d like to take charge of me,” Mike said of the video. “In fact… I just wish women ruled the world. I wish they’d relieve men of their pathetic, imagined and derelict responsibilities and sort out the whole mess that we’ve made, it would be so great if they would.”
The song drops as the band continue their packed summer of Waterboys festival appearances and comes off the back of the release of their stunning new album All Souls Hill – out now on Cooking Vinyl – and a reissue of their tenth studio album ‘An Appointment With Mr Yeats’.
