New Album VONA VELLA (OUT NOW)
If you’ve ever swooned to the sophisticated songs of a male/female duo – think Ben & Tracey, Serge & Jane, Esther & Abi, Nico & Lou – you’ll find something to love in the thrillingly infectious indie pop of Vona Vella, who celebrate the release of their eponymously titled debut album, with the release of a new single, ’Anchor,’ through Strap Originals, on Friday 28th July.
’Anchor,’ is the followup single to ‘Intertwined’ which picked up multiple plays on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Radio X and BBC Introducing.
Vona Vella are twenty-one-year-old singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Izzy Davis and Dan Cunningham. The band officially formed in Autumn 2020, after Ross Godfrey from Morcheeba heard their single ‘Sun’ and decided to remix it. Once released it proved an instant viral hit, racking up over a million streams in the blink of an eye.
The deliciously enigmatic video for ‘Anchor’ stars Dan as King Canute in sixties threads sitting on a kitchen chair on the Kent coast trying to stop the tides, before setting off on a quest for a missing jigsaw piece, while Izzy takes a vocal turn in an apartment straight out of ‘Brighton Rock’. Their quite wonderful debut album ‘Vona Vella’ was recorded at The Albion Rooms studio and produced by Jason Stafford (Jamie T, Sports Team, The Libertines) and Vona Vella. All of the tracks were co-written by the duo: Dan Cunningham on guitar and piano, with Izzy Davis on guitar and flute… and joined by Jake Bott on drums.

Vona Vella toured last year supporting the Libertines, Tim Burgess and Morcheeba. This year they have supported Peter Doherty, Hak Baker and Reverend & The Makers and recently performed at The Great Escape and Dot2Dot Festivals.
Vona Vella released their debut EP ‘Go Outside Forever,’ in early 2022, which was given a glowing review by none other than Paul Heaton and in January of this year a remix of the title track from the EP, ’Go Outside Forever,’ was featured in the hugely successful NBA2K23 video game.
