SOPHOMORE ALBUM “SOME PEOPLE SCREAM, SOME PEOPLE TALK OUT” JULY 26
After the release of “Collect Calls” featuring Flozigg and femdot., Wakai is officially announcing his second studio album Some People Scream, Some People Talk with his next single, “Frustrated,” which is out everywhere now on THANKS Recordings. The track has been a mainstay in the Louisiana native’s live performances, injecting it in his sets between unreleased songs and tracks from his successful debut album, To a Dark Boy.
In his distinctively silky flow, Wakai rhymes over the Stoic Beats-produced melody, expressing his exasperations about life not always going his way. “Frustrated was my depiction of myself at a crossroads not knowing how to channel my anger,” Wakai says. “Through these frustrations, I found serenity in the empowerment of my journey more than my struggle. This song is dedicated to the people who feel how I felt and got through it.”
At 22-years-old, Wakai is a DIY aficionado with a preternatural natural talent for creating makeshift studios & recording anywhere he lays his hat. Emerging at the forefront of a bubbling new-wave hip-hop community in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Wakai earns respect from those who inspire him while nurturing a compelling sound of his own. His 2022 debut To a Dark Boy was a polished and personal introduction that featured an eclectic roster of talent, affording him more than just a local buzz and catapulting him into the ranks of hip-hop’s most interesting newcomers.
Growing up close to his family, the rapper found early inspiration from his father’s personal collection of music. Artists like OutKast, Erykah Badu, and Earth, Wind & Fire laid an indelible imprint on Wakai’s knack for songwriting, which became noticeable as he began tinkering with instruments as a child. Being accustomed to working with trained musicians and live bands has aided his presence in the industry as a versatile songster and performer. Garnering a buzz with his new releases from publications like The FADER, Pitchfork, and Lyrical Lemonade as well as earning a spot on Pigeons & Planes’ Best New Artist list of October 2022 has left anticipations high for the southern multihyphenate’s 2023 sophomore album, Some People Scream, Some People Talk.
