YANNIS & THE YAW
ANNOUNCE A NEW RUN OF UK HEADLINE TOUR DATES THIS DECEMBER
INCLUDES A TRANSGRESSIVE 20TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW AT THE O2 SHEPHERD’S BUSH EMPIRE IN
ASSOCIATION WITH WAR CHILD AND THE MUSIC VENUE TRUST
Yannis & The Yaw followed their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Lagos Paris London’ with a series of high-energy live shows, including a sold-out London gig at KOKO. The shows saw the collective mix up tracks from the EP with expansive, old school Afrobeat-inspired jams and a take on Tony Allen’s ‘Afro-Disco Beat’ to rapturous receptions, in the process capturing the spirit of the musicianship and personality that made the late, legendary Tony Allen such an inimitable figure.
Now, following strong demand for tickets for the sold-out KOKO show, Yannis & The Yaw announce details of their second headline tour. It adds three new UK shows to their previously announced set at the Trans Musicales Festival in France, culminating with a special O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire show on December 11th. The gig marks a final 20th anniversary event of the year from Transgressive, which has thus far taken in 12 packed and sold out events across the UK, Germany and North America. The show is held in association with charity partners War Child and the Music Venue Trust, where attendees and guests will have the ability to learn more and offer donations to the respective causes.
The tour will see Yannis Philippakis joined by the Yaw, who feature key EP collaborators Vincent Taurelle (keys) and Vincent Taeger (drums), along with Dave Okumu (guitar, The Invisible), Seye Adelekan (bass, Gorillaz) and the project’s visual collaborator Kit Monteith (percussion, synths). The Upcoming’s review of their KOKO show concluded “If you’re a huge fan of Foals or like Afrobeat and other British musicians’ experiments with it, then it’s both fascinating and fulfilling to see.”
Yannis says, “It’s a joy to continue the journey of The Yaw, shaking up the kaleidoscope again at some more shows. Can’t wait to see you there.”
Tickets for the UK shows will go on sale HERE from 9am on Friday, October 25th.
