‘STREET SERMONS’ Was Released on 17th March via Yep Roc Records
Born out of Brooklyn, NY, Daddy Long Legs is a throwback to the garage rock days of early rock and roll playing hopped-up rhythm and blues channelling Howlin’ Wolf to early Rolling Stones
Daddy Long Legs features Brian Hurd on vocals, harmonica and guitar, Murat Akturk on slide guitar and Josh Styles on drums and percussion.
“Street Sermons” is 4th third studio album (in addition to one live album and two singles) and they’re second on Yep Roc Records. The album, which features 12 original tracks
“Street Sermons” opens with the title track, a foot-shuffling, clanging banging percussion-driven track with repetitive vocals Followed by “Nightmare” a homage to 60’s beat bands and it’s a true statement of intent
“Rockin My Boogie” and “Harmonica Razor” are both harmonica-driven slices of 50’s blues-infused rock and roll, and the pace then picks up through “Been A Fool Once” before slipping back into the country blues acoustic guitar-driven “Star”
“You’ll Die To” is back to wailing harmonica before we are treated to the spaghetti western stylings of “Silver Satin” think Duane Eddy in a cowboy hat and the brilliant slide guitar of “Two Dollar Holler” before the banjo picking almost skiffle feel of “Ding Ding Man”
“Stop What Your Doin” and “Electro Motiv Blues” bring the record to an end with a bang!
With 12 songs packed into a short space of time, this is not an album with long-winded guitar solos. guitar and harmonica are both the primary solo instrument as well as an important rhythmic contribution. If you like your blues ragged and raw dragged through a hedge of electricity and modern attitude, taking in everything from Stray Cats, John Lee Hooker and even the Black Crowes, you will find a lot to dig on this record
