” LOVE IS THE CALL “
OUT NOW
Cast is one of those bands that maybe was a bit overlooked and hidden by the shadow of Britpop bands like Oasis and Blur, but they have shown that from the days of the brilliant first Cast album ” All Change “, to supporting Oasis at Knebworth, where Noel Gallagher described watching the band live as being like a “religious experience” and being labelled “The Who of the 90s”. proving they truly are a special band and John Power is truly a special songwriter. And he we are 3 decades later, Cast are back with their seventh album studio album ‘Love Is The Call’. Recorded last summer at ‘Space Mountain’ studios in Granada, Spain with Grammy Award-winning producer Youth
And it has the makings of a classic, After already releasing 3 brilliant singles, “Love Is The Call’ ‘Love You Like I Do’ and ‘ Far Away’ it feels to me like a step back to the early days of John Power’s songwriting of brilliant 60’s psychedelic, guitar-driven pop mixture of The La’s and Cast circa ‘All Change”
Bluebird starts proceeding, just John Power’s voice and acoustic guitar and he sounds like the missing Beatle, what a great way to start the album.
The album has this amazing ’60s Merseybeat vibe, it chugs in parts, it’s bluesy in parts, it’s full of harmonies, it’s bright, full of brilliant choruses that you can’t wait to learn the lyrics to so you can a sing-along
My favourite tracks were “Faraway “ all jangling guitars, and packed full of melody, it’s a classic Cast track, and “Love You Like I Do”, a great track with a The Small Faces feel, especially at the end with John Power reminding me of Steve Marriot on ” All Or Nothing “
I loved this record it’s a joy, its packed full of scouse Indie guitar anthems and John Power and the band never sounded better, Cast are right on top of their game and if you don’t believe me, just listen to “Love Is The Call “
