BAD PRESS / ALBUM / 20 AUGUST 2021
CAPTAIN ACCIDENT will release his fourth studio album on 20 August 2021 via iTunes, Spotify, Deezer and all other major digital outlets and also on CD. BAD PRESS follows three previous albums – Pick Up the Microphone (2010) Slippin’ Up (2013) and Wake & Break (2016) – each of which earned attention and acclaim from national press and BBC Radio 1Xtra and cultivated legions of fans within the vibrant reggae, ska and festival scenes, drawn by an intelligent approach to songwriting and the heartfelt and captivating lyrics.
As often witnessed in the traditional roots of reggae and ska, the message of PLAYING FIELD, the first track released from the album, is both politicised and agitated whilst being enveloped by the sweetest of rhythms and vocal performance. It’s a trait that has epitomised the previous albums and continues with BAD PRESS. As Skiddle rightly noted when discussing the band, “What stands out is the paradox between heavy political commentary and the boisterous rocksteady bass and supporting guitar, emanating both a warmth and a declaration of peace.”
CAPTAIN ACCIDENT creates his unique blend of roots reggae, ska and rocksteady at his studio in Cardiff, a sound that is then transformed to the live stage with the help of five exceptional musicians. Through numerous festival appearances which include Glastonbury, Bestival, Wilderness, Boomtown and Secret Garden Party, and extensive touring of the UK and Europe, their live show has become one of the most infectious and thrill-inducing on the circuit.
The band were handpicked by the legendary Toots & The Maytals to support on a run of UK dates in 2016 and impressed the reggae masters to such an extent that they were invited to perform as full tour support in 2017 and 2018, playing such prestigious venues as London Barbican Theatre, Brighton Dome and Manchester Academy. They were then asked to support on the full Toots & The Maytals European tour in 2020 but, naturally, this was initially postponed due to Covid-19 and subsequently cancelled following the death of Toots Hibbert.
