On the vibrant evening of November 9th, I found myself at the exquisite Scala in the regenerated King’s Cross area, eager to experience the live performance of psychedelic indie pop maestros, Flamingods. Despite missing the opening acts due to a fashionably late entrance, i was excited for the main event
Flamingods, gracing the stage to mark the launch of their fifth LP, ‘Head of Pomegranate,’ exuded an aura of confidence that immediately captivated the nearly full venue. many fans who had embarked on the sonic journey with Flamingods for over a decade.
The band unleashed a riot of sound, seamlessly blending synthesizers and fuzzed out Eastern guitars, percussion stations, bowed string boxes and powerful vocals with an explosion of hair and color . Their status as celebrated multi-instrumentalists was evident, drawing comparisons to Tame Impala but infusing their performance with an irresistible groove that set them apart.
The atmosphere in the room was nothing short of electric, resembling a joyous party where the crowd sang and danced in unison. Love for the band filled the air, a testament to the connection they have cultivated with their loyal fan base over the years.
Flamingods skillfully navigated through genres, weaving elements of psychedelia, new wave, and electronica in their own distinctive manner. The result was a sonic tapestry.
In essence, the night was a splendid celebration, a harmonious blend of the old and the new from a band that undeniably deserves the unwavering love bestowed upon them by their devoted followers.
