Back with a big bang – HELLO COSMOS – will be beginning 2024 with an unmissable show at a stunning new music venue in Stockport.

Making their first live performance back a hometown exclusive at St Mary’s Church, the collective will be promising a guest-studded and immersive AV spectacle in the city’s most talked-about new live-music hotspot; the restored Parish church in the vibrant heart of the Marketplace. Part of the buzzy wave of creativity sweeping across the city dubbed “the new Berlin”, Hello Cosmos will be paving the way for a series of live experiences due to be hosted at the venue, beginning with this initial live showcase night.

With the electroclash / psych-rock unit already confirmed to headline the first event on 23 February, today the band are further announcing that supporting slots on the night will come from fellow Stockport-scene risers: BIG SOCIETY and FONDABATH.

Founded by RNCM students and friends Thomas Fripp (guitars) and Harry Gumery (bass) and Will Jaquet (drums), Big Society have made short work of finding fans in high places. With their idiosyncratic indie-pop drawing comparisons to artists ranging from MGMT to War on Drugs, the trio have picked-up radio support from Radio 1, Radio X, XS Manchester, while garnering praise from tastemaker titles like DIY and Alfitude – clocking up north of 1 million streams in the process. Having supported Neil Young and Bob Dylan at a huge outdoor show in Hyde Park, Big Society have all the ammo for a rapturous support slot and will be packing a must-see set in Stockport this February.

Plus, Greater Manchester hidden gems Fondabath will be bringing the heavy guitar tones of their 2023 self-titled EP to proceedings earlier in the evening. Made up of lead singer Grace Parker, bassist Ellie Morgan, drummer Joel McCulloch, plus dual guitarists Sam Hampton and Nic Malabuyoc, the quintet’s critical grunge-geared indie-rock slabs like “Craving” and “Apart From You” have already shaken the foundations of major venues like Manchester Academy and promise to leave a lasting impression at what will be their first UK show this year.

Like Hello Cosmos, both acts are fellow residents of Stockport Mill, where HC are currently putting the finishing touches to their keenly awaited next studio album. At this one-off show at St Mary’s Church, fans will be able to see all three bands performing new material ahead of the pack in a truly unique setting.

Headlining the night with a “one-off immersive live show featuring music and guests from the Hello Cosmos universe”, Hello Cosmos will be airing cuts from what’s shaping-up to be their first full-band album since their acclaimed debut ‘Dream Harder’ (2021). Alongside fan-favourites from across their back catalogue to date, expect teasers of upcoming singles “Turn Off The News” and “The Hot Seat” (to be released in the coming weeks) and much more.

As frontman, Ben Robinson elaborates:

“It’s incredible that St Mary’s is hosting shows and we will be debuting our new live show with material from our next record, written in Stockport over the last few years. It tracks the trials and tribulations of the dark days we’ve all seen and the potent feelings of unity, friendship and love that were supercharged by those times. We couldn’t imagine a better place to return to the live stage and speak our truths than Stockport’s St Mary’s… it’s time to begin again.”

Hello Cosmos will be performing as a sextet, with the familiar faces of Ben Robinson (vox/guitars), Simon Robinson (drums), Adrian Ingham (guitar), Angela Chan (violin/synth), joined by new members Elara (sax/vox – who notably appeared on the ‘Golden Dirt’ mixtape), plus Isaac Dobbo (percussion – and of fellow Cosmic Glue labelmates Vacant Weekend).

Chiming with the next Foodie Friday event in Stockport Old Town, the details and ticket link for the Hello Cosmos show is as follows:

Hello Cosmos are a Greater Manchester-centred collective of creatives. A four-piece at their core, the band are led by songwriter and bass player Ben Robinson, the founder of the celebrated bluedot & Kendal Calling festivals. Also featuring the talents of mainstay members Angela Chan on viola/synths/vocals (notably a member of the Mercury-shortlisted Lanterns on the Lake and a touring member of Placebo), powerhouse drummer Simon Robinson (brother of Ben) and the uniquely styled guitarist Adrian Ingham (of Deathretro, assisted by a stack FX pedals); together as Hello Cosmos they are a meeting of minds of telepathic harmony with immense capability. Elara and Isaac Dobbo (Vacant Weekend) have joined the official live set up from 2024.
Unfurling a string of stimulating singles and EPs since their formation in 2017, Hello Cosmos found their breakthrough in 2019 with the obliterating electro-punk of the ‘Run for President’ EP; winning over supporters at BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Radio X, to Under The Radar and Louder Than War in the process. In 2021 Hello Cosmos released their acclaimed debut LP: ‘Dream Harder’ with Louder Than War praising it as a record “guaranteed to knock your socks off” (4.5/5). In the latter half of 2021, Robinson teamed-up with US-based producer The Olchemist for a collaborative mixtape effort entitled ‘Golden Dirt’, which was written and recorded in the lockdown of that year. In 2023, Hello Cosmos unveiled the remix album ‘Hard Dirt (Remixed’, which featured thumping reworkings of HC tracks by Jagz Kooner, Richard Norris, Catu Diosis, Foxtrap, Joe Thompson and more. Across their projects to date, Hello Cosmos have worked with an impressive 50+ collaborators and counting…

In 2024, Hello Cosmos will return with a brand new album, recorded at Greenmount Studios. Built from symbiotic grooves laid down by founding members Ben and Simon who have reunited for this third effort, the record is said to document the last few years and is inspired by the heavier side of The Smile, Young Fathers, and Frank Sidebottom & Alan Watts. Stay tuned for further news in the coming weeks.
