HOLLY HUMBERSTONE AT O2 ACADEMY LIVERPOOL UK 24/11/22

WORDS AND IMAGES NATHAN COLE

Holly Humberstone takes on O2 Academy Liverpool tonight for the third show of her ‘Sleep Tight’ tour. Everyone has made their way out In the cold to catch this performance and my hopes are high. The singer- songwriter first generated attention with her song ‘Deep End’ in 2020 and since then we haven’t had enough of the music she’s putting out. The venue is starting to fill out as she is soon to begin her third show of the tour

Kicking off tonight is Benjamin Francis Leftwich. He jumped straight into the first song of the night ‘Elephant’ and it immediately got the hall swaying along. The slow and powerful tunes impressed everyone with impressive vocals. The start of calming strums on his guitar halted any conversations as they turned to watch. As one of Holly’s friends, working on songs with her, he thanked everyone for having him for tonights show and you could tell he loved playing tonights stage for the crowd. ‘Look Ma!’ Was another stand out from tonights set. This brought a bit more speed to his performance, heads bouncing to his meaningful and deep lyrics.

While fans waited for the main event, they were greeted with a playlist of nostalgic anthems. They took no break and screamed along to show how ready they were for Holly to carry on tonights entertainment.

Holly entered the stage to cheers and yells, picking up her guitar with a grin on her face. The audience didn’t hesitate to sing back the lyrics to her first song ‘The Walls Are Way Too Thin.’ Her devoted fans have waited all night for her to take the stage and they put one hundred percent into making her feel welcome. The cheers and applause started again at the end of the tune, echoing through the venue.

She pondered for a moment before announcing it was a first Liverpool headline show. She wasn’t too sure how accurate her memory was but the audience went crazy none the less. She studied at LIPA university not far away from tonights venue. There were many young students in tonights crowd watching in awe. Countless of them in the same boat as holly once was watched as she kept them fixated on the stage in front of them.

She jumped into the next song ‘Vanilla’ while everyone kept up their enthusiasm.

As the show moved on I saw people with their phones in the air. I looked around to see numerous of the fans on FaceTime as they carried on screaming lyrics back to Holly. There were clearly fans that couldn’t make tonights show that still needed a taste of their favourite songs.

She sat alone at a piano for her powerful song ‘Falling Asleep At The Wheel.’ Every single word was matched by the crowd as she sang it with all her heart. Everyone resonated with the song and even the back of the room sang out the lyrics and danced around.

The last song tonight ’Scarlett’ sent the audience into a touching burst of liveliness to end with. Everyone swayed and danced leaving Holly to leave the stage, happy I’m sure with how much she moved tonights crowd.
