AS PART OF A NEW PROJECT, EXPECTED EARLY NEXT YEAR
An acronym for ‘Busy Making Money’, the song is an uplifting and inspirational anthem for badass people everywhere that fuses smooth soul with rousing R&B.
Explaining the track in more detail Marianna offers, “I tend to spend a lot of time making sure that the people around me are good, but sometimes I just wish I could be someone who doesn’t feel the need to answer every text within 2 seconds or fix every problem, and just say ‘fuck it, I’m busy’. You know?”
“‘BMM’ (Busy Making Money) is an anthem to anyone who secretly pretends to be a ruthless, champagne-popping, cut-throat, money-making bitch.”
This new track follows on from previous singles ‘Over You‘, a glorious melting pot of warm synths paired with the singer’s smooth vocals, and ‘Voodoo‘ a darker, spellbinding ode brimming with rich guitars and shimmering beats. It all makes up part of a new project from the singer expected in early 2022.
Marianna Winter is one of the few female artists currently pioneering the lo-fi underground scene in the Faroe Islands. Born and partly raised between Tórshavn and California, she challenges her homeland’s musical and cultural status quo, adding an LA heat to the quintessential nordic sound, thus offering a unique perspective into both cultures.
Recurring themes of love, and subsequent break-ups, embed themselves into Marianna’s lyrical content as her Chet Baker-esque vocals pair themselves with the sonic stylings of Jai Paul. Marrying these elements together the singer offers, “I’m amazed at how, surrounded by literally billions of people, we still manage to feel lonely. But I’ve recently realised many of the things that make us feel isolated are the same things that tie us together: love, breakups, heartache, grief….It’s whether we share these things with each other that makes the difference, so that’s what I want to write about.”
