13-time Grammy Award-winner Lady Gaga has debuted Harlequin, a surprise album inspired by the character Harley Quinn from Joker: Folie à Deux (ahead of the film’s wide release on October 4). Out now via Interscope Records, the album was co-executive produced entirely by Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky, taking listeners on a genre-defying journey that captures the essence of one of pop culture’s most iconic and chaotic figures. Gaga announced the album via her Instagram this week, teasing fans with glimpses of the project, including a newly released visual for the track “The Joker,” which is available to watch HERE. Download/stream Harlequin HERE.
Affectionately dubbed LG6.5, Harlequin is an exploration of the raw, emotional complexity of a woman who thrives in chaos, a genre-defying force who cannot be contained. Just like Harley Quinn and Gaga herself, this album is unpredictable, full of contrasts, and unapologetically bold.
Notably, Harlequin marks Lady Gaga’s first jazz-inspired album since the passing of her longtime collaborator Tony Bennett. The album represents a step forward in bringing classic standards into the modern era, as if these timeless songs were reimagined through the lens of all the music that followed. Gaga breathes new life into these beloved tracks, combining her deep love of jazz with a fresh, avant-garde approach, honoring the past while pushing it into uncharted territory.
What makes Harlequin unique is the way it floats effortlessly between all musical styles, pulling from whatever sounds felt right in the room.
KEEP UP WITH LADY GAGA
PAUL WELLER
SUPPLEMENT: 66 EP TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 18TH ON POLYDOR RECORDS
After the success of his recent album 66, Paul Weller releases 4 sublime new songs for the “Supplement: 66” EP on October 18th, available to pre-order from September 27th with instant grat single “Change What You Can.” The tracks on “Supplement: 66” were recorded at Paul’s own Black Barn Studios especially for an EP and serve as a loving nod to his past while also embracing his continued growth as an artist.
Opener “That’s What She Said” tips a hat to Paul’s Style Council days capturing the warmth and lively energy of those times. “Change What You Can” drives vibrantly along amidst soaring backing vocals from Jake Fletcher and irresistible flute from Jacko Peake. Track 3 “Earth In Our Feet”, co-written with Steve Pilgrim, has a laid back waltzy feel with a joyful horn section weaving its way throughout. Esteemed folk singer/songwriter Kathryn Williams takes lead vocals on the haunting closer “So Quietly” which she also co-wrote.
All tracks were produced by Paul Weller and feature most of the Weller band plus a few additions such as Max Beesley on vibraphone, folk legend Danny Thompson on double bass and original Jam member Steve Brookes on guitar.
Paul heads off on a UK tour in October and November – all dates now sold out.
