WORDS AND IMAGES DESH KAPUR
Fans of legendary rock band Queen were treated to another kind of magic as the official tribute band, Queen Extravaganza, brought their highly anticipated UK and Ireland tour to Llandudno’s Venue Cymru. This tour marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic anthem Bohemian Rhapsody, and the evening lived up to its promise of celebrating one of rock’s greatest legacies.
Produced by Queen’s original members, Roger Taylor and Brian May, and featuring musicians hand-picked by Taylor himself, Queen Extravaganza delivered a show that felt like the closest thing to experiencing Queen live musically. Though the band members didn’t look like Queen, they more than made up for it with a performance that sounded just as legendary. From start to finish, they were tight, precise, and entirely on the money, bringing Queen’s timeless hits to life with an energy and flair.
The night featured all the biggest anthems, including “We Will Rock You”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, and of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Fans of all ages, from teens to lifelong followers, filled the venue, singing along with enthusiasm. As Roger Taylor remarked, “We hand-pick the most incredible musicians for Queen Extravaganza – and they do a fantastic job honoring our songs.” This was evident throughout the performance, as the crowd was swept up in the excitement, united by their love of Queen’s music.
The set was packed with hits from Queen’s vast catalog, and while the lead singer may not have captured Freddie Mercury’s signature flamboyance, he still made the songs and stage his own. His vocals were strong, and his presence on stage was confident, connecting with the audience in his own unique way. The performance was a showcase of the musicians’ talent, with the iconic guitar solos reminiscent of Brian May’s genius and the drums driving the show forward, much like Taylor’s original work.
Queen Extravaganza has been touring the world for over a decade, but this tour was something extra special, paying tribute not only to the band’s 50-year legacy but also to the song that cemented Queen’s place in music history: “Bohemian Rhapsody”. As Brian May put it, “QuEx is something unique – not just a tribute band, but an extension of the Queen family, whose dedication to excellence is now legendary.”
The night concluded with a high-energy encore, as the audience sang every word. As the audience left Venue Cymru, it was clear they had experienced a magical tribute to Queen.
In summary, Queen Extravaganza at Llandudno was an extraordinary night that truly celebrated the legacy of one of the biggest bands in the world. With a perfectly curated setlist, flawless musicianship, and a crowd that spanned generations, it was a spectacular tribute to Queen’s music. Fans were left buzzing.
