Taking a breath from international touring, exhaling the past to take in the present, long-standing collaborator with Doves, Peter Hook and The Light and Echo and The Bunnymen, Rebelski releases his latest single, Eternal. Gently lifted from his fourth solo album, Monochrome, which has been announced for full commercial release in early 2025, following a DIY, direct-to-fan exchange earlier this year, the compact composition is a rare Rebelski song featuring guest vocals.
Having enjoyed 25 years as a professional musician, both on the road and in the studio, Rebelski’s time to shimmer in his own beams of light came as early as 2003 with the release of Thanks for Your Thoughts on Heavenly Records. Committed to exploring the inner reaches of his relationship to the white and black keys before him, the hectic pace of early-noughties and the era’s modish, Hammond-powered freneticism has cooled to a modern, minimalist study in the piano’s expressive reach.
Where Rebelski gave ample space and time to the notion of Simplicity with his 2023 album of the same name, offering 15 unadorned piano compositions of deft emotional impact, his return with Monochrome has toyed with suitable partners for his core instrument. Strings and vocals, sparingly used, offer accents to accentuate Rebelski’s intention to promote his art and the art of listening.
Announcing that Monochrome will become available on major streaming platforms on Fri 24 January 2025, Rebelski calls for focus on Eternal’s specific expression of disillusion at the prospects for young musicians and a career in music like the one he has enjoyed.
