SCOTTISH SONGWRITING SENSATION SHARES UPLIFTING NEW SINGLE ‘EXPECTATIONS’

EMOTIVE, RESONANT FOLK/POP FROM THE OUTER-HEBRIDES

Scottish songwriter Rosie H Sullivan has returned with new single ‘Expectations’.

Growing up on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides but now based in Edinburgh, Sullivan crafts deeply personal and emotive indie folk, tackling personal growth and the existential transition of moving from an island to the mainland/city. Personal relationships also come into play in her remarkable songwriting, but it is her relationship with herself that sits at the core, culminating in a beautiful, resonant sound that finds as much inspiration in modern influences like Marling and Bridgers as it does the classics.

Last year saw Sullivan release ‘So It Is’, a understated demo recorded in her garden that amassed almost 400,000 streams without any backing or push from a label, and after a year of writing and honing her sound, she is starting to return with new music.

In September, Rosie fully emerged with ‘What A Life’, a statement of intent and the first look into a forthcoming debut project, seamlessly bringing her writing talents to the fore and unveiling a star in the making. She then returned with ‘So I’ve Been Told’ which offered another piece to the puzzle, and now has returned with ‘Expectations’.

Taken from her highly anticipated debut EP out next month, the uplifting track tells the story of Rosie being at one with nature and feeling most at peace in rural surroundings. It beautifully showcases her wholesome voice and indisputable musical talent, as well as the warm sincerity of her lyrics.

Having started writing and creating songs in her early teenage years, Rosie has always based her music around her own life and those close to her, taking inspiration from her environment. This openness and honesty adds a relatable quality to her work that is drawing more and more listeners in.

Throughout Expectations, Rosie expresses a feeling that her mind is cured when she returns to the place she calls home. Immersed in the stillness and tranquillity of the Banchory countryside, where her parents now live, she can forget about all of the “noise and situations” which take up so much of her time elsewhere.

More music is expected from Rosie H Sullivan soon, for now listen to ‘Expectations’ here.
