Sum 41’s farewell gig at Co-Op Live in Manchester, was an emotional, explosive, and fitting send-off for the Canadian punk rock legends. The show marked the band’s final UK performance as part of their farewell tour, and they certainly went out on a high note, delivering an energetic, nostalgia-filled set that spanned their nearly 30-year career.
The night kicked off with high-octane energy as the band opened with classics like “Motivation” and “The Hell Song,” immediately igniting the crowd. The two-hour set was packed with fan favorites, including “Fat Lip,” “In Too Deep,” and “Still Waiting,” which had the entire arena singing along. The setlist also mixed in newer tracks like “Dopamine” and “Landmines,” showing that the band never lost their creative spark.
Visually, the show was a spectacle with pyrotechnics, balloons, and confetti, creating a fittingly grand atmosphere for their final Manchester show. Each member of the band had their moment to shine, with frontman Deryck Whibley leading the charge with relentless energy, while guitarist Dave Baksh and drummer Frank Zummo delivered impressive solos, including a surprise cover of Slayer’s “Raining Blood.”
As the night wore on, the bittersweet reality of this being the last time Sum 41 would perform in Manchester began to sink in. The crowd, filled with fans of all ages—many reliving their youth—were visibly emotional during slower songs like “Pieces” and “With Me.” The highlight of the night was undoubtedly “In Too Deep,” a song that encapsulated the joy and nostalgia of the band’s peak, with the audience’s participation making it a memorable farewell moment.
This final Manchester gig was a celebration of the band’s enduring legacy and connection with their fans. Sum 41 left the stage to a chorus of cheers and tears, bringing their 30-year journey to an epic, heartwarming close.
