It’s been a couple of years since The Tedeschi Trucks Band played in San Diego. The last show was back in 2022. It was great to have them back at The Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre right in the middle of the San Diego State University campus, especially with Little Feat opening.
Those who made it to the sold-out show on time were treated to an electrifying performance by the legendary Little Feat. As the opening act, they set the bar high for the evening with a setlist that showcased their most famous hits, blending rock, blues, and funk in a way that only Little Feat can. Their hour-long, eight-song set was perfect and included fan-favorite songs, “Fat Man in the Bathtub” and “Dixie Chicken”, two of their most popular tunes. It was great hearing them perform live.
Their performance was a masterclass in musicality, blending technical skill with heartfelt delivery. The band’s ability to connect with the audience and deliver a dynamic, engaging performance is a testament to their enduring appeal and talent. I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to experience them live. Check out their new album Sam’s Place here:

After a 30-minute break, it was time for the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The concert was a night of incredible music, heartfelt moments, and joyous celebration. Derek Trucks’ birthday added an extra something, making it a night that fans will remember for years to come. If you ever have the chance to see this phenomenal band live, seize it – you won’t be disappointed.
From the moment the band took the stage, the energy in the venue was palpable. Susan Tedeschi’s powerful vocals and commanding stage presence were perfectly complemented by Derek Trucks’ amazing guitar work. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and the whole band seemed to be in perfect sync last night. Photographing from the soundboard level allowed me to capture the whole stage and get shots of the band that would not have been possible from the photo pit. the downside was that there were limited angle sand views and that made it close to impossible to capture Brandon Boone on bass.
It was also great to see some of the folks that I spent the Kofi Day of Service with last year. It was good to run into everyone who was there.
