Since forming in 2009, Citizen—vocalist Mat Kerekes, guitarist Nick Hamm, and bassist Eric Hamm—have endlessly pushed themselves with each successive release, actively resisting the comfort zones that often plague bands as they grow

Well, imagine if you will, Elliot Smith, Crosby, Stills and Nash and a band of guitar pickers, all jamming in a garden of bracken bush, interspersed with purposely chosen coloured fauna, that favours the brave, yet delivers, with eyes closed, a sense of melancholy, that you will discover, is a pointless waste of time trying to fight; oh yes, imagine.

Hard hitting, rhythmic and true to itself, Citizen has provided us with a true image of that initial sensory observation, mixing anger, passion and personal reflection, until it spills out onto tracks that run alongside all of our daily experiences. The bands new album ‘In your glass world’ has blended a rawness with arrogance and omitted all of the unnecessary noises that most bands feel the need to fill tracks with and in that way, they have given us a statement of intent that separates them from the over produced commercial bias, lately so prevalent, delivering a musical striptease that dares you to look away.

Chameleon in its conception, yet unapologetically alive and daring, this album fights you in the street, in the bar and anywhere else you might be and delivers a shiner to the eyes that warrants any gilded mirror and a rematch. Music is about character, about passion and about statement and ‘In your glass world’  those words are painted in a big, bold and brazen way that sticks two fingers up at the norm and fills a void so seldom inhabited by a lasting taste of mmmmmmm, wow, I want more of that. Yes this album scares me because it accepts all of its mistakes leaving them to be heard, but deep down, I’m okay with that, because funnily enough, life is like that and I concur.
